Embodied Ashtanga with Staisha

This Ashtanga Yoga class offers insights to finding alignment within the postures that suits each individuals physiology and gives the practitioner plenty of time to transition between poses.

The practice begins with the standing postures of primary series before moving into the the seated practice. Transitions between seated postures is always optional and alternative methods for developing the strength necessary to move towards a practice that includes theses transitions will be offered.

This class is suitable for all levels of practice. While having some previous yoga experience is helpful the emphasis of this practice is not primarily on the physical aspects but on cultivating a relationship to our body and nervous system in a compassionate and non-judgmental way. We learn to approach the practice from a place of wise intention, and present moment awareness of breath and body as we move through the asanas.

Neurogenic Yoga

Neurogenic Yoga™ is a revolutionary technique in trauma healing and stress reduction.

This practice combines yoga asana and pranayama with the body’s natural, therapeutic shaking response. This shaking response in humans, much the same as the instinctual shaking in animals, is the nervous system’s way of discharging long-held tension and trauma, or unconscious muscle contraction in order to restore the body to wholeness. When the nervous system identifies threat, vibration or shaking in the body is designed to occur automatically. However, negative social constructs and beliefs around what it means to allow ourselves to shake, tremor, or show vulnerability, condition us out of this innate release mechanism at a very early age. Neurogenic Yoga™ reawakens our body’s intrinsic release mechanism for optimal health.

This technique is a simple, gentle, and profound practice that facilities the lengthening and relaxation of the psoas muscle and the release of physical and emotional stress and tension. During a Neurogenic Yoga™ session, we safely self induce therapeutic tremoring.

This class begins with an explanation of the Neurogenic Yoga™ process after which you will then be safely guided through the practice and tremoring process by a certified Neurogenic Yoga™ provider. The class will end with a group check-in, discussion, and you will be given after-care instructions.

*To ensure that everyone in attendance receives personalized attention and feels safe to have their process, these classes are limited to six people at a time. Please register in advance to reserve your spot before the start of the event.

TRE (Trauma/Tension Releasing Exercises)

Trauma or Tension Releasing Exercises (TRE™) is a revolutionary technique that helps to release the deep chronic tension created in the body during a traumatic experience.  Through a series of 7 simple exercises we are able to access the body’s natural tremoring response. The vibration or shaking that we experience in the body after doing these exercises is the nervous system’s natural way of discharging long-held tension and trauma, or unconscious muscle contraction in order to restore the body to wholeness. The TRE sequence is a simple and profound practice – which anyone can do – that facilitates the release of physical and emotional emotional stress.

  • Pregnancy is a  contraindication for any neurogenic tremoring classes. If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant please refrain from participating in these classes until it is safe for you to do so.

Recovery Dharma

Recovery Dharma is a peer-led movement and community that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to recover and find freedom from the suffering of addiction. We believe that recovery means empowerment, and we support each other as partners walking the path of recovery together. Our program uses the Buddhist practices of meditation, self-inquiry, wisdom, compassion, and community as tools for recovery and healing. We believe that recovery is about finding our own inner wisdom and our own path. We believe that the traditional Buddhist teachings, often referred to as the Dharma, offer a powerful approach to healing from addiction and living a life of true freedom.

Our program is based on the idea that every one of us is our own guide in recovery from addiction, with the help and understanding of our wise friends and sangha (community). We believe that’s what the Dharma teaches us. So it’s with great joy and excitement that we come together to build this recovery community and support structure, informed by the spirit of democracy.

Recovery Dharma welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior, whether it’s caused by substance use or process addictions like codependency,  gambling, eating disorders, relationships, technology, or any obsessive or habitual pattern that creates suffering. We’ve found that this Buddhist-inspired path can lead to liberation from the suffering of addiction, and we support you in finding your own path to recovery.

Day Long: Stories, Strategies, & Selves

Join Recovery Dharma South Florida & SoFla Insight Collective for a day of practice, exploration, and community!

The Buddha’s teachings trace much of our psychological distress to the beliefs, habits, and identities we cling to in our efforts to navigate the complexities of life. They also provide a roadmap for recognizing how these patterns show up for us and ensnare us, and how we can step out of them and find freedom.
In this daylong program, we will explore how to recognize and attend to these processes in our own direct experience, and how, through cultivating skills of embodied awareness, calm attention, and heartfelt care, we can begin to release unhelpful patterns and open to fresh ways of relating to our lives with greater presence, connection, clarity, and ease.

The day will include periods of Dharma teaching, guided meditation, mindful movement, interactive exercises, and group discussion.

Additional Details:

- This program is open to all, and is suitable for all experience levels.

- There is no cost to attend. Donations to support the groups, center, and teachers are greatly appreciated.
